Facescapes/Landscapes: New Work by Dan Smith and Steve Brooks
Influences of Gauguin and Cezanne are unmistakable in the large format oils and acrylics by these two master artists from Hickory, NC.
Dan Smith is best known for his abstract images of faces put together in a collage-like fashion and the changeable quality of his work. During Wednesdays in March, Dan will be changing/painting on a work in progress since 2007 — a large format self-portrait titled Deere John Maerkle. This ever-evolving painting covers an 80 inch by 40 inch canvas.
Steve Brooks’ large format landscapes are inspired by his love of the outdoors, his early influences of the artists Bonnard and Wolf Kahn, plus Cezanne and other post-impressionists. His body of treescapes is about light, its interruption and space.
