The Yadkin County Health Department will be offering the flu vaccine during the “flu season.”
Our walk-in clinic will be on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. It will be held at the Health Department located at 217 E. Willow Street in Yadkinville.
Yadkin County Health Department accepts the following insurance: Medicaid, Medicare only if you do not have a Medicare supplement, or Blue Cross Blue Shield. We will also offer the flu vaccine for $25.00.
The flu can be a devastating illness for older adults, children and immune compromised individuals. Each year in the United States about 9 out of 10 flu-related deaths and more than 6 out of 10 flu-related hospital stays occur in people over the age of 65.
There are ways to help protect yourself and loved ones from the flu such as; frequent hand washing, use of hand sanitizer when unable to wash hands, when sneezing and coughing cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or with your forearm, and keeping your hands away from your nose, eyes and mouth.
If you are sick with a flu like illness the CDC recommends staying home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone. Getting a flu shot is also another great preventative measure.Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine as soon as the current vaccines are available.
