The Northwestern Regional Library system will hold Amnesty Days November 5-10.

If you have any lost materials, fines or fees from a public library in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry or Yadkin counties, you can clear these items from your record and help someone else in return. Simply bring in canned or non-perishable food items or hygiene items to your library and your lost materials or fines and fees may be forgiven. If you do not owe any fines or fees, you can still help. All donations are welcome!

STORYTIME for preschoolers will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Yadkin County Public Library. STORYTIME is an early literacy program specifically geared for preschoolers 2-5 years old. The theme for this week’s program will be “Night Moves”, featuring the letter “N” and highlighting the literacy skill, letter knowledge. All STORYTIME programs are free and open to the public. Make plans now to bring your child or grandchild for an entertaining and educational experience, with stories, music and crafts as we help get them “Ready to Read” with the “Every Child Ready to Read @ your Library” program.

The library will feature a program on Highland Service dogs for children with autism on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 10:00 am. Assistance Dogs for Autism is a division of Highland Canine Training, LLC, located in the foothills of North Carolina. They provide reliable and affordable Autism Assistance and Service Dogs, providing a social “bridge” for children diagnosed with autism and their families. Fourth grade classes from Yadkinville Elementary School will be here to attend. This program is free and open to the public.

The library’s book sale is still ongoing. With prices reduced to $1.00 for a bag, this is a great time to stock up on some reading materials at an affordable price. Please be aware that our book sale will end on Friday, November 9, 2012.

Writer Belle Boggs will be offering a free memoir workshop on Monday, November 12, 2012 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Yadkin County Public Library. Workshop participants will read and discuss a variety of memoirs inspired by nature and will consider the question, how does where you live affect who you are? Participants in the workshop can choose to share their writing on the web with Forbush and Starmount Middle School students and will be invited to a writing celebration in the Willingham Theater at the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 6:30 pm. With a limit of 20 participants, pre-registration is required. Please call the library at (336) 679-8792 to reserve your spot. The Memoir Workshop is a collaboration between the Yadkin Arts Council and Yadkin County Middle Schools and is funded by a grant through the North Carolina Arts Council.

On display at the library is a collection of memorabilia, commemorating 100 years of Girl Scouts. This includes pictures, uniforms and more. The display has been traveling to all 16 counties of the local Triad Girl Scout Council. They have recently merged to form the Peaks to Piedmont Council which includes 40 counties. Come visit the library to see this collection on display until mid November.

The Yadkin County Public Library is a member of the Northwestern Regional Library system, comprised of libraries in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. The library’s normal operating hours are as follows: Mondays and Thursdays 8:30 am – 6:30 pm and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.
