Yadkin County welcomed Colleen Church, the new Extension Director for the North Carolina Cooperative as of Nov. 1.

Church’s responsibilities as the director will include administrative duties, pesticide education, local foods, farmland preservation programming and consumer and commercial horticulture programming.

Church has been involved in Extension since 2003. She first acted as the horticulture agent for Davie County, where she worked with farmers, green industry professionals, private and commercial pesticide applicators, Extension Master Gardner volunteers and homeowners.

Prior to joining Extension, Church worked for The Brickman Group Ltd. as a floriculture supervisor. She also has experience in nursery and propagation.

Church holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in horticulture science from North Carolina State University. She currently lives in Ronda with her husband, Todd, and daughter, Abbigale.

“I am so happy to have the opportunity to work for Yadkin County and with the Yadkin Extension staff,” Church said. “I look forward to learning more about the county and how we at Cooperative Extension can better serve the residents of Yadkin County.”
