EAST BEND - The Lady Falcons let their first victory of the season slip through their fingers.

Leading 22-12 at halftime and tied 29-29 going to the fourth, Forbush was unable to seal the win as Ashe County pulled out the hard-fought 35-33 victory Friday night in East Bend.

The Lady Falcons grabbed a 7-4 lead after one quarter of play before outscoring the Huskies 12-4 in the second to take a seemingly comfortable 10-point lead in the locker room.

But Ashe battled back and poured in 17 points in the third to knot the game at 29-29 heading to final frame.

In a low-scoring fourth quarter, the Huskies took a 35-33 lead with less than a minute and a half remaining. Missed free throws allowed Forbush the chance to win the game at the buzzer, but the Falcons never got off a final shot, falling in a heart-breaker.

Savannah Hill led the way offensively with nine points, while Brittany Moose and Jessica Funk added six points apiece.

Forbush dropped to 0-6 on the season and 0-2 in the Mountain Valley Conference.

The Lady Falcons return to the court with two conference games this week still searching for their first win. Forbush travels to North Wilkes Tuesday night before heading to West Wilkes Friday night.
