EAST BEND - Forbush picked up its first win of the season in a big way.
The Falcons dropped 41 points in the second half to knock off defending regular-season conference champion Ashe County 63-37 Friday night.
Forbush limited the Huskies to just 19 points after halftime to turn a 22-18 lead at the break into a runaway, 26-point victory.
Center Todd Patterson led all scorers with 15 points on the night, while Jacob Funk and Mason Doub finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Falcons jumped out to a quick 14-1 lead in the opening quarter with seven points from Patterson. But Ashe battled back and cut the lead to four at the break.
From there, Forbush caught fire. The Falcons scored 20 points in the third and led by 21 points heading into the final quarter. They matched that total in the fourth to cruise to the victory.
The win ended a five-game losing streak to open the season for the Falcons and improved their record to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain Valley Conference.
Forbush rebounded from a heart-breaking 79-76 overtime loss to East Wilkes Tuesday night in the conference opener for both squads.
The Falcons got 23 points from Doub but dropped the thriller in the extra session. Barrett Hennings added 18 points on the night, while Funk tacked on 14.
Forbush returns to the court with two road conference games this week against North Wilkes Tuesday night and West Wilkes Friday night.
