EAST BEND - With the basketball season hitting the home stretch, both Forbush hoops squads are looking to end the season on a high note.
At 5-7 in conference play, the Lady Falcons find themselves in the thick of the 2A, trailing Ashe County (8-4) and Wilkes Central (7-5) for the top spot.
With four games remaining on the regular season schedule, Forbush has the chance to move up the standings with two games left against 2A squads.
The Falcons kick off the final quarter of games Tuesday night against Yadkin County rival Starmount (3-9) in Boonville. Forbush held on for a wild 55-52 victory over the Rams in their first meeting in January.
The Lady Falcons then travel to Elkin Friday night to cap off the week looking for a season sweep of both area teams. Forbush topped the Elks 55-41 on January 8.
The boys face more of an uphill climb with a 3-9 mark in league play.
Sitting in third place in the conference standings, the Falcons trail second place Ashe County (5-7) by two games with just four games remaining. Front-runner Wilkes Central (11-2) has already clinched the top 2A spot.
Forbush will be looking to pick up another 2A victory Tuesday night against rival Starmount (3-9). In the teams’ first meeting, the Falcons cruised to the 78-65 win, while setting a season-high in points scored.
Forbush then heads to unbeaten Elkin Friday night with a chance to hand the Elks their first loss of conference action (13-0). Elkin ran away from the Falcons in the first matchup, coasting to the 74-46 victory.
