County residents wanting to spend a little quality time with their pooches should make plans to attend this year’s fourth annual Dog Days of Summer at Round Peak Vineyard.
The event is set for Aug. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Round Peak Vineyard, located at 765 Round Peak Church Road in Mount Airy.
Organizer Jane Taylor, who worked closely with Round Peak owner Kari Heerdt, said the annual event has become a favorite for both two-legged and four-legged county residents.
“This is something we’ve been doing for several years in an effort to showcase some adorable adoptable pets from local rescues,” Taylor said. “We also want to create awareness of why it’s better to adopt animals rather than shop for animals.”
Taylor, of local spay and neuter group Mayberry 4 Paws, said she is grateful for the support offered by Round Peak.
“They are just so supportive of animal rescue groups, and are a very pet-friendly group to work with,” she said.
In addition to displaying animals available for adoption, there will be food available for purchase and beer and wine tastings.
But the four-legged attendees won’t be left out.
“We’re going to have lots of fun things for the pooches,” Taylor said. “There are going to be agility demonstrations and doggie contests like races and a pie eating contest for dogs.”
Anyone interested in participating as a vendor this year, which is totally free, should call Round Peak Vineyards at 352-5595.
“We really hope everyone comes out and has a good time,” Taylor said. “It’s been a really fun day in the past, and hopefully will be this year as well.”
The public is invited to bring their pets to the event, and will be allowed to stroll with their pets through the picturesque vineyard.
