Carters celebrate 25 years together

January 2, 2014

Phyllis and Bruce Carter celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Dec. 28 with the renewing of their vows and a reception at Shoaly Branch Baptist Church.

The couple have no children but celebrated with friends and family. They were married on Christmas Eve, 1988 at the same church.

The anniversary ceremony was conducted by their pastor, the Rev. Keith Blankley.

Guests were served anniversary cake, lime punch, hot spiced apple cider made by the couple’s friend Frances Upright, barbecue meat balls, potato skins, meat and vegetable wraps, and a selection of cut vegetables, fruits, and other foods.

The tables were decorated with white tablecloths, snowflakes, candy kisses and glass lanterns.

Party favors were handmade silver pine cone ornaments made by Cindi Heaton and pictures were taken by Gary Heaton of King.

The cake was made by Rose Mary Burchette of Roaring River, sister of the bride. The three-tier cake was vanilla with strawberry jam between the layers with butter cream icing. It was topped with a silver number 25 and decorated with burgundy hydrangeas and greenery.

The “Lord’s Prayer” was sung by Mitzi Younce. Music was provided by Carol Luffman of State Road, cousin of the bride.

The bride was escorted by her 11-year-old nephew, Dalton Burchette of Roaring River. Cathy Hardy of Dobson helped with choosing flowers and food. The pastors wife, Stephanie Blankley, helped the bride get dressed.

The couple displayed their baby pictures and pictures of their parents on an old upright piano at the reception. The couple enjoyed fun and fellowship with everyone who attended.
