The 2013 National Senior Games were held the weekend of July 20 in Cleveland, Ohio, and two players from Yadkin County went home with gold medals. The Winston-Salem Wannabees competed in the 60+ Division of the women’s softball portion of the games, defeating rival teams from Canada, Connecticut, New Mexico, Ohio and Texas to win first place and become the national champions. The team consists of women from Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Stokes and Yadkin counties. Bonnie Fulp and Cathy Hardy of the Forbush community were thrilled to be a part of the festivities and were excited to see their training and hard work pay off. The Wannabees had previously qualified at the North Carolina State Senior Games in 2011. The nationals are held every other year, meaning that the ladies had two years to practice and prepare to seek the gold. The 60+ Wannabees Roster: Candy Newsome, Bonnie Fulp, Dale McCanless, Janice Jackson, Jeanette Harpe, Trish Daniel, Floss Lambeth, Chery Bremser, Judy Holder, Cathy Hardy, Peggy Smith, Charli McDaniel, Tina Boston, Diana Eaton, Regina Daniel, Nora Stephens and Linda Harris.
