Civitas Media welcomed its newest reporter, Kitsey Burns, to the staff of The Yadkin Ripple this week. Burns is a native of East Bend and former reporter for both The Yadkin Ripple and Elkin Tribune.
“I am thrilled to be returning to a career in journalism,” Burns said. “But most importantly, I am excited to work in my wonderful hometown community and I look forward to reporting on the things that matter most to my friends and neighbors.”
Burns is a 2004 graduate of UNC-Greensboro, where she majored in communication studies. While in college, she became a member of national service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega and Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc.
Following college, Burns worked briefly as a staff reporter for The Elkin Tribune and Yadkin Ripple before embarking on a career in marketing and public relations.
She served in a marketing role at the Piedmont Club in Winston-Salem for seven years before moving to a position in public relations and social media management with Pet Sitters International in King. Most recently, she has worked on marketing and social media promotions for The Liberty and Diana’s Bookstore, and coordinating the Yadkin Valley Wine Shop.
In her personal life, Burns is an active volunteer. She has participated in the annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day for The Cure since 2006. Burns is also a volunteer with Foothills Theatre. She will be seen on stage as Savannah Sprunt in the upcoming production of “Mama Won’t Fly” on Feb. 7, 8 and 9.
