Poet Laureate to visit Elkin Library

ELKIN — The North Carolina Poet Laureate Joseph Bathanti will be reading from his works of poetry Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Elkin Public Library, 111 N. Front St., Elkin.

The event is free to the public.

Bathanti is a Vilas resident and is employed with Appalachian State University in Boone as professor of creative writing. He also is director of writing in the field at ASU and serves as writer-in-residence at ASU’s Watauga Global Community.

The poet laureate is appointed by the governor and typically serves a two-year term, according to the North Carolina Arts Council’s website.
