YADKINVILLE — Residents in the Yadkin County area will have a chance to select a local charity that will receive $7,500 in free advertising through a program sponsored by Civitas Media LLC, parent company of The Yadkin Ripple and Yadtel.

The giveaway, being called MyOwn® Community Service Partner Campaign, is being held in conjunction with the new community website — MyOwnYadkinville.com — that was launched by the The Yadkin Ripple in earlier this month.

“We’re proud to be part of the Yadkin County community and this is one of the ways we want to show our gratitude,” said Michael Bush, chief executive officer of Civitas Media. “The $7,500 in free advertising will help a local charity deliver its message online or in print, however it chooses. The new website will bolster our already robust print and online products.”

“We are very excited about partnering with The Yadkin Ripple and sponsoring the MyOwn® Community Service Partner Campaign,” said Mark Cartner, public relations coordinator of Yadtel. “We have a wonderful community that is supported by so many outstanding local charities and service organizations. With us being a co-op founded right here in the area, we are committed to this community. We are part of the community. We want anything that will strengthen the local bonds and strengthen the community. I encourage you to nominate your favorite non-profit organization.”

Local residents will select the winning charity, said Holly Lamm, business development manager of the The Yadkin Ripple. That will happen in a two-fold process.

Wendy Byerly Wood, content manager of The Yadkin Ripple, explained that charitable organizations will have until May 11 to submit their nomination form, which can be found online at MyOwnYadkinville.com. At the conclusion of the nomination period, residents will vote for their favorite charities. The top five vote-getters will then advance to a second round of voting to determine the winners. Articles will be published in the newspaper announcing the top five nominees and the winner.

The first round of voting will take place on MyOwnYadkinville.com from May 15 through June 1. There will be one vote per person.

The new MyOwn® Community Websites allow readers, schools, community organizations, local governments and others to post their favorite photographs, such as vacation or sports photos; share upcoming events, such as Scout meetings and bake sales; and even write your own blog.

Any local charity in the Yadkin County area with an IRS charitable designation is eligible for the $7,500 of free advertising.
