YADKINVILLE — The Yadkin County Historical Society will present a reunion of the contributors to its popular “Heritage of Yadkin County books, I and II,” on June 8 at 2:30 p.m., Yadkin County Senior Center, 207 E. Hemlock St., Yadkinville.
The program will feature a history of how the society compiled the books. Contributors submitted more than 1,000 illustrated family histories. The society published Volume I in 1981, reprinted it in 1991 and sold more than 3,000 copies. Volume II was published in 2001 and sold nearly 1,000 copies. Frances H. Casstevens was the editor for Volume I, and Deborah C. Davis was the project manager for Volume II.
In addition, the society published “The People of Color of Yadkin County, North Carolina,” in 1992, to make the publication of family histories more inclusive. Marcellene Blackburn Lindsey and Wanda Carter Craaybeek served as the compilers.
Participants will discuss the publication of a third volume of the Heritage book with new information and photographs. Andrew L. Mackie, president of the society, noted that it has been more than 10 years since the last publication.
“Many changes in families have happened since then,” he said.
The program is free to the public. For more information, contact Andrew Mackie at 428-8471 or email@example.com.
