The Yadkin Farmers Market will be wrapping up its season next month, but there are still plenty of good things available in the last weeks of the market.
“We will be transitioning to greens, the cool season crops, turnips, kale, creasy greens, sweet potatoes. So we’ve got some goodies yet to come,” said market vendor Tim Martin. “We really want to keep it as vibrant as we can and keep folks thinking about us even when school starts back.”
Winter squash, pie pumpkins and apples also will be available as the fall season begins. The Yadkin Farmers Market is located at 1141 Tennessee Road and is open Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The market’s last day for the season is Oct. 10.
President Glenda Edgell said the market has grown substantially this year and they hope to continue to grow, both in the number of vendors and number of shoppers.
“Every week we see more new faces,” Edgell said. Tuesdays are probably the biggest day of the market, she said. In addition to fresh produce there are also baked goods available and a meat vendor as well featuring fresh sausage and a variety of cuts of meat.
“I really would like to encourage local growers to come out and join us,” Edgell said. “We would like to have more diversity of food crops and other products in the future.”
