Area teams with Relay for Life of Yadkin County host a variety of fundraising events throughout the year, but an upcoming event is a first for the group.
On March 26, Relay for Life of Yadkin County is bringing AML Wrestling to Yadkinville School. This event is a family-friendly television taping to benefit Relay for Life of Yadkin County and Boonville Presbyterian Church.
“We are thrilled that AML chose us to partner with us for their upcoming event,” said Relay organizer Allison Reeves. “We all remember growing up watching wrestling on TV with our daddies and many of us thought Ricky Steamboat was the bomb. Funny memories. We are simply thankful that AML chose Relay for Life and the fight against cancer, as their cause to partner with.”
Relay for Life, the title fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, raises funds for cancer research and local programming. The Yadkin Relay event is scheduled for May 13.
The March 26 fundraising event, titled AML Wrestling Presents NEVER ENOUGH, will take place at the Yadkinville Elementary School gymnasium at 305 N. State St. in Yadkinville. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for VIP Ticket Holders (rows 1 and 2), General Admission ticket holders get in at 6 p.m. and the bell time is 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be sold. Children 10 and younger are admitted free with a paying adult and General Admission tickets are $15 each.
Tickets are available also through Relay team members and at the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center.
Special guest for the event, WWE Hall of Fame member “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, will be on hand to greet the fans and to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
“When I was contacted by AML Wrestling to be part of this event, I was very excited,” said Duggan. “I’ve worked for the folks at AML Wrestling in the past and they put on a first class event. I’m also honored to be coming to Yadkinville for what I believe to be the first time in my career to be helping Relay for Life which is so worthy of the support.”
In addition, the Stars of AML Wrestling also will be in competition in the squared circle.
This is the Yadkin County debut of AML Wrestling. Yadkinville was chosen for the television taping primarily because the owner of the company, Tracy Myers, is from Boonville.
“When I was growing up in Yadkin County, my friends and I always complained about not having anything to do,” said Myers. “So when we were planning on where we wanted to take AML Wrestling in 2016, Yadkinville was on the top of the list. My team and I have been impressed with Relay for Life of Yadkin County as well as the nice folks at Boonville Presbyterian Church and how hard they have all worked to help make sure this event is a success.
“Our goal is to give families an event they can bring their families to, have a great time in the process while raising lots of money for Relay for Life. If it’s successful, we definitely hope to make this an annual event.”
