Yadkinville mayor died Saturday

Town residents in Yadkinville are mourning the loss of their leader, Mayor Hubert Lee Gregory, who died Saturday.

The town made the announcement about Gregory’s passing Saturday via its Facebook page.

“Mayor Gregory was a dedicated public servant who served his country and community with great honor, pride and integrity,” noted the post made just before 6 p.m.

An outpouring of comments followed on the post, offering prayers and condolences to Gregory’s family. Many mentioned his friendliness and dedication.

Gregory, who was 85, had served as mayor since his election in 1997.

According to his obituary, visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville, with the funeral following at 7 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with military honors by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard.

The Yadkinville Board of Commissioners have called a special meeting Thursday at 10 a.m. at Town Hall, 213 Van Buren St. to discuss the board structure.
