A local restaurant has seen a recent boost in business thanks to recognition online as one of the best small restaurants in the state. The Yadkin Dairy Freeze was honored last month on the website OnlyInYourState.com in an article by Emory Rakestraw titled “10 More Extremely Tiny Restaurants In North Carolina That Are Actually Amazing.”
“I think it’s awesome,” said owner Doug Byrd.
Along with a picture of an ice cream cone and a banana split, Rakestraw wrote, “I can’t leave out the sweets, and Yadkin Dairy Freeze has the perfect trio of burgers, dogs and amazing ice cream. The perfect place for lunch and a tasty treat on a hot summer day.”
Byrd, who has run the Dairy Freeze for 11 years now, said it was a customer who first told him about the article and then other friends, family members and customers began talking about it.
“It’s starting to get around, a lot of people have found out about it,” Byrd said. He was amazed and honored to find that his restaurant had been recognized. Not only are regular customers excited about it, but it’s drawing in new customers as well.
“It’s been good for our business,” Byrd said.
In addition to ice cream and sundaes, the Yadkin Dairy Freeze is known for its classic diner fare of burgers, hot dogs and fries as well as hot wings and more.
Byrd said they have a strong local clientele as well as folks who come from surrounding counties just to eat at the Yadkin Dairy Freeze.
Reconnecting with old friends from the area and making new friends has been Byrd’s favorite thing about the restaurant.
He also said he was grateful to his wife and family for supporting him in the business as well as his loyal employees. Byrd said his manager, Raymond Hutchens, could be credited with keeping the restaurant running smoothly. He also said Doni Vestal is another staff member he is extremely proud of, “she has been with me since the day I opened the doors,” he said.
