A teenager was taken into custody after Yadkinville Police officers received reports of shots being fired in the proximity of the Yadkin Plaza Apartments at 12:16 p.m. on Friday.
Officers were quickly on the scene to investigate. Detectives heard additional shots and observed a Hispanic male carrying a handgun enter one of the apartments located on Plaza Oaks Drive, according to a release from the Yadkinville Police Department.
Yadkinville Police Department and Yadkin County Sheriff’s deputies cordoned off the area and evacuated the apartments in proximity of the suspect while negotiations ensued.
This was not the home of the offender and other persons including a child were inside the residence. After a 30- to 40-minute standoff, the suspect came out of the apartment unarmed and was taken into custody. The remaining persons inside the apartment were evacuated with no injuries reported.
The suspect is reported to be 15 years of age. Any additional information of the suspect cannot be released at this time. The teen was charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, discharge of a firearm in city limits, consume alcohol under age of 21, and resist, obstruct and delay a government official.
