Yadkin gearing up for 2016 election

The General Election will be held on Nov. 8, polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Deadline for registering to vote or making a change to registration is Oct. 14 by 5 p.m. for the General Election. Those who miss this deadline to register, may register and vote during One Stop Early voting only and will be required to provide documentation of identity and residence. Voters who fail to make name or address changes by the registration deadline must update their information when presenting to vote.

Absentee by Mail began on Sept. 9 and the last day to request a ballot will be on Nov. 1. All absentee by mail requests must be made on the state request form. Voters may obtain one of these forms by visiting the website at www.yadkincountync.gov/departments/elections, or on the North Caroline State Board of Elections website www.ncsbe.gov, by calling the elections office at 336-679-4227, or coming by.

Absentee voting requires the voter to complete an application on the back of the return envelope that must be witnessed by two qualified persons or a notary public. Completed absentee ballots must be returned to the Yadkin County Board of Elections office by 5 p.m. on Election Day.

One-Stop (Early) Voting in Yadkin County will be held upstairs in the Planning, Permitting and Elections building, located at 213 E. Elm St. in Yadkinville. Early voting will begin on Oct. 20. The hours will be: Oct. 20 through Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This will be the only Saturday the One-Stop will be open. There also will be curbside voting available during this time.

The Deep Creek Precinct has moved from the Friends Disaster Building to the basement/fellowship hall of the Branon Friends Meeting Inc.

Photo ID will not be required for this election.

The elections office is open Monday through Friday of each week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and any questions may be directed to the office at 336-679-4227.
