Donations needed for children in need

It’s a season of giving and several local organizations are doing what they can to ensure that all children will have something special to celebrate the season.

“We have a lot of children to take care of and make sure they have something under the tree Christmas morning,” said Shelly Holbrook, culinary director at the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center. “We have teamed up with the Children’s Center of Yadkin and Surry again this Christmas for the Children’s Center Angel Tree.”

The Angel Tree is located at the Third Branch Café inside of the Yadkin Cultural Art Center. Holbrook said there are names of 62 local children ranging from 1 week old to 17 on the tree. The children are part of the group home or in foster care. Those interested in assisting with the project are asked to take a name from the tree and bring in an appropriate gift, unwrapped to donate to that child. Items are due by Dec. 16.

Holbrook said donations of cash, toys, gift wrapping supplies and more also are being accepted.

Starmount High School’s Beta Club students have taken 15 children this year.

“It’s great to see students giving back to the community,” Holbrook added.
