It’s been a busy time for the town of Yadkinville. The town recently held a community input session to get feedback from locals on things they would like to see in the town’s future. A new town commissioner also was sworn in earlier this month.
There have been several changes on the board following the death of Mayor Hubert Gregory in March of this year. Mayor Pro Tem Eddie Norman stepped in to serve as mayor, leaving an open board seat. Commissioner Kelly Oliver also resigned earlier this year due to a move out of the town, a requirement for town leadership. Oliver was replaced with Scott Winebarger. The seat left open by Norman was filled earlier this month by Chris Matthews. She was sworn in at the town’s monthly meeting on Dec. 5.
To kick off the holiday season this December, the town of Yadkinville held its annual tree lighting ceremony at the town park. Town Clerk Shelia Weathers said it was a wonderful turnout for the event, which included holiday music and refreshments provided by Sheetz.
A special moment of silence was honored in memory of Mayor Gregory as the tree lighting ceremony was always one of his favorite events in the town.
Mayor Eddie Norman read “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to children in attendance at the celebration. Commissioner Betty Driver did the honors of flipping the switch to light the tree.
