Without warning on Nov. 10, tellers at Yadtel Telecom retail stores found themselves unable to process payments for anyone trying to pay their Duke Energy, Energy United, and various other bills normally handled by the company. Only Yadtel bills could be taken, and that remains the case until further notice.
The problem lies with a third party through whom all non-Yadtel bills are routed. Yadtel contracts with TIO Networks/Global Express to enable the telecom to take payments from many other service providers. Recently, PayPal purchased TIO Networks and discovered a security vulnerability during pre-integration testing. PayPal immediately suspended TIO operations as a precaution. Yadtel received no warning about the suspension of payment processing and is waiting for PayPal and TIO to resolve the issue.
The company apologized to its customers for the inconvenience.
