Ashley Brooke Church and Alexander Gregory Foley exchanged vows on March 21 in a 6 p.m. traditional ceremony at University United Methodist Church, Chapel Hill. The Rev. Brian Belting officiated.


The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary A. Church of Charlotte and is the granddaughter of Mrs. Dorothy A. Edwards of Hamptonville and the late Mr. James Hendrix Edwards, formerly of Hamptonville, and Mr. and Mrs. Max P. Church of Elkin. She graduated from Butler High School in Matthews, earned her B.A. in communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and received her Doctor of Law degree from the Charlotte School of Law. She is employed as an associate attorney with the law practice of Burt & Cordes, PLLC in Charlotte.


The groom is the son of Ms. Patricia M. Dombek of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Q. Foley of Matthews. He is the grandson of Mrs. Theresa Birch of Muscatine, Iowa, and the late Mr. Frederick J. Birch, formerly of Muscatine, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Matthew J. Foley, formerly of Middletown, Ohio. He is a graduate of Butler High School in Matthews and earned his B.S. in information science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is employed as a vice president in the Global Security Division at Bank of America.


The bride was given in marriage by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gary A. Church. She wore an exquisite soft tulle gown with a crisscrossed, drop-waist bodice accented by a fully embellished beaded waistline. Lace applique was featured on the hem of the gown, with covered buttons on the zipper and a chapel-length train. Her veil was accented with appliqued lace and a scallop edge.


The maid of honor was Lindsey Nicole Church, sister of the bride, of Charlotte. Attending were Sarah Hahn Archer, Caitlin Harrison Brooks, Taylor Yvonne Meadows, and Ashley Elizabeth Yakopec of Raleigh. Also attending were Morgan Leigh Furr of Charleston, S.C., Catherine Walker Gutter of Chicago, Ill., and Brooklyn Decker Roddick of Austin, Texas. Junior bridesmaid was Jessica Ellen Church, cousin of the bride, of Charlotte.


Flower girls were Olivia Anne Church, cousin of the bride, of Charlotte and Madeline Jane Kennedy, niece of the groom, of Longview, Texas. Ring bearer was James Eakin Kennedy, nephew of the groom, of Longview, Texas.


Best man was Seth Mitchell Ivey of Charlotte. Groomsmen were Matthew Allen Church and Zachary Allen Church, brothers of the bride, of Charlotte; Matthew Joseph Foley, brother of the groom, of Oak Park, Ill; Daniel Lawton Baughn of High Point; Grantlin Christopher Brooks of Raleigh; Matthew Allen Coccia of Savannah, Ga.; Shawn Walter Lawson of Charlotte; and Marc Edward Weber Jr. of Chapel Hill.


Ushers were Adam Michael Everett of Hickory and Steven Michael Steele of Hamlet.


Organ music was provided by Minister of Music, Timothy Baker of Chapel Hill, and soloist and pianist, the Rev. John Glenn Stegemerten Jr. of Charlotte.


Guest register attendant was Whitney Fogle Stegemerten of Charlotte. Program attendant was Claire Louise Collins of Fayetteville. Scripture and poem readers were Sarah Gray Roach and Julie Anne Sass of Charlotte.


A dinner and dancing reception hosted by the bride’s parents was held following the ceremony in the ballroom at the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.


Entertainment was provided by the band, Rubberband.


On the eve of the wedding, the rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents and was held in The Great Room at Top of the Hill, Chapel Hill.


Prior to the wedding, the couple were honored with an engagement party in Cashiers, hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Andy Roddick, Ms. Taylor Meadows and Ms. Lindsey Church; a Christmas shower in Raleigh, hosted by bridesmaids Ashley Yakopec, Caitlin Brooks and Sally Archer; and a household shower in Denver, hosted by family friend, Mary Beth Bryson. The bride also was honored with a bridal breakfast prior to the wedding in the Tank Room at Top of the Hill hosted by her mother, Tammy Church, and sister, Lindsey Church.


The newlyweds honeymooned at Matachica Resort and Blancaneau Lodge in Belize.


The couple will reside in Charlotte.
