Yadkin County Library - Yadkinville
The library will be celebrating our past at the Yadkin Valley Harvest Festival in September. Mark your calendar for Sept. 20 so you can join in on the fun!
A knitting class series will be held at the library on Tuesdays from 12-1 p.m. Participants will begin with learning the basic knitting stitches and begin knitting a beginner scarf or beginner dishcloth. Classes are taught by Michelle Spillman of Yadkinville. Knitting classes are free and all materials will be provided. No pre-registration is required.
If you are you interested in tracing your family roots or need help in learning to use Ancestry.com, the library offers a free workshop, with volunteers, J.E. Brown and Patricia Rogers. Classes are now being offered on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. or Thursdays at 1 p.m. at the Yadkin County Public Library. In addition, all NWRL libraries offer free access to the Ancestry.com Library Edition throughout this year. No advanced registration is required and all workshops are free and open to the public. Come join us for an informative session!
NWRL is participating in the year-long “Geek the Library” campaign. This community-based campaign will raise awareness of the importance of library funding. Stop by your local NWRL branch and see what we are geeking! If you have a passion for something and want to share your passion, stop by the library and let us take your photo to include in our display!
While thousands of eBooks are available through NC LIVE to library patrons across the state of North Carolina, eBooks made right here in the Tar Heel State are often not included in larger, aggregated library collections. The NC LIVE eBook program is a collaborative effort to bring eBooks published by North Carolina publishers to the virtual shelves of North Carolina libraries. The program will deliver low-availability, high-quality content to library patrons while developing long-lasting relationships between libraries and local publishers which include fiction novels as well as non-fiction titles spanning a wide range of topics, from history and culture, to cooking and travel. You can find NC Live on our nwrl.org web page. Once you get there click on eBooks and you will see the Home grown eBook collection on the right side of the page. This is a pilot project to see what kind of response they will get on these books. Please take the time to check out some titles.
The library is always on the lookout for items for our display case. If you have a collection or know of someone who has a collection that you would like to have on display, please call the library at (336) 679-8792.

Each month, our library offers a program you may not be aware of. One day each month we have “Monthly Movie Day”. On this day, we not only offer you a movie, but a movie with popcorn and a drink, and a friendly HELLO when you walk in the door. We have several people who already attend, but would like to see a whole lot more. In the month of September, the movie will be “Heaven is for Real”. The date will be Sept. 16 at 12:30 p.m. We will remind you again, but we hope to see you here.
We will be starting our Pre-School Story Time on Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. If you are looking for something to do with your preschool child, please consider bringing them to our library. We have so much fun. We read stories, we sing and dance and we do a craft every week, and we have three holiday parties each year. The best part of all is you and your child will get to make new friends that could last a lifetime.
On Sept. 19 our library will be closed to patrons. This is a day that has been set aside for all 13 libraries in the Northwestern Region to participate with each other in a day of Staff Development. We will observe normal operating hours on Thursday and Saturday and we apologize, in advance, for any inconvenience our closing may cause.
Please mark your calendars for Sept. 20 for the yard sale hosted by the Friends of the East Bend Public Library. It will be held on the front lawn at the library starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m. There will be someone at the library in the afternoon on Sept. 19 to accept any donated items you would like to offer for this sale. There will be more information to follow at a later date. Come on out and support your Library.
