HAMPTONVILLE — On Oct. 7, the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious truck behind a residence on Collins Road in Hamptonville from a concerned neighbor.
The responding deputies discovered the truck in the back yard and the driver explained he was driving through the yard, got stuck and he was trying to get the vehicle out. After the victim who lived at the residence arrived and an ensuing investigation, the truck was found allegedly to have been stolen from a Surry County resident. Also, some belongings of the victim allegedly had been moved and outbuildings entered.
Richard Travis Butcher, 35, of Thurmond, was arrested at the scene and charged with one count felony breaking and entering, one count of felony larceny after breaking and entering, one felony count of attempted larceny, one felony count of possess a stolen motor vehicle, one misdemeanor count of injury to personal property and one misdemeanor count of injury to real property. He was given a $25,000 secured bond with a court date of Oct. 14. He also was arrested on Surry County warrants regarding the related crime.
