The Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office received a request for a welfare check on an elderly resident on Union Cross Church Rd., Yadkinville on April 11. It was discovered that the well-being of the person and the residence were in poor condition. Upon an investigation, the Yadkin County arrested and charged the son, Joey Harold Mendenhall, 42, of the residence, with felony abuse of elderly with injuries, felony second degree kidnapping, misdemeanor resisting public officer and misdemeanor assault of a handicapped person.
Mendenhall was also served warrants later in the day for felony possession of marijuana, felony manufacturing marijuana, felony maintaining dwelling, felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana and misdemeanor of possession drug paraphernalia. These charges came after a search warrant was executed at the residence.
Mendenhall was given a secured $75,000 bond with a court date of April 19.
