Surry to offer Accelerated Nurse Aide I course

DOBSON — Surry Community College will be offering an Accelerated Nurse Aide class this summer. The course, which normally takes 18 weeks, has been concentrated to an eight-week session. It will be held on the Dobson campus beginning May 16 and concluding July 14. The class will meet Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the clinical built-in.

“I think the Accelerated Nurse Aide class is perfect for students who are seeking quick employment,” said Deborah Cave, RN, who is the director of the Nurse Aide program at Surry Community College. “It is also beneficial for those students who are not attending college classes during the summer and need to obtain their Nurse Aide I prior to getting into other healthcare programs such as RN and LPN. Students also get extra admissions points for Nurse Aide if they are going into radiology, dental hygiene, and sonography.”

After completing the eight-week course, students will be qualified to sit for the state competency exam to be certified as a Nurse Aide I. “Students will have to be focused because it will be very fast paced,” Cave said.

Registrations are now being accepted and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Only 20 students will be accepted. Interested persons should contact Margie Collins at 336-386-3423 or Debbie Cave, RN at 336-386-3372.
