Team second in nation


The Forbush Hunter Safety Jr. team (Yadkin Patriots) took second place overall at the NRA YHEC National Championship held at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. The competition took place on July 24-27 with 15 states competing for the National Hunter Safety Championship. Teams competed in eight events: Archery, Rifle, Shotgun, Muzzleloader, Orienteering, Safety Trail, Responsibility Exam and Wildlife ID. The team finished first in Responsibility Exam, first in Wildlife ID, second in Archery and third in Shotgun. Zachary Seats placed first in Orienteering. Garrett Poindexter placed first in Responsibility Exam. Nick Johnson placed third in Responsibility Exam. The team consists of Nick Johnson, Jessica Stanley, Josh Long, Zachary Seats, Garrett Poindexter, Jacob Williams, Terry Miller, Aaron Hunter and Samuel Odom. The team is coached by Carson Hobson and Brian Poindexter. Lourae Doub and Diane Odom are the Exam and Wildlife ID coaches. The team members expressed thanks to the community for its support of the Forbush Hunter Safety Program.
