JONESVILLE —The Jonesville Business Association met Tuesday at the Jonesville Comfort Inn in the first meeting of the new year to discuss upcoming goals.
On Tuesday, Treasurer Issy Hinshaw of Issy’s Consignment Shop nominated the 1633 Winston Road Jonesville Comfort Inn represented by General Manager Vanessa Caudill as Business Member of the Month in the meeting’s opening minutes. On Thursday, Caudill was awarded recognition by the Jonesville Business Association.
During the meeting, the group discussed a desire to get more businesses involved and renew memberships.
President of the Jonesville Business Association Anita Darnell, with Best Western Hotel and Yadkin Inn and Suites, said the group “strives to promote its members, as well as other civic groups and organizations in Jonesville.”
The membership is $50 a year and businesses must be located in the 28642 zip code to join. The Jonesville Business Association was formed in the summer of 2012.
The monthly meetings are “for the purpose of helping shape Jonesville promotions and to allow members to network and meet fellow Jonesville merchants,” said Darnell.
Secretary Regina Adkins (Hampton Inn) said the association has been involved in many community projects so far. Some of them include: a bicycle safety program in conjunction with the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office, a canned food drive for Tri-C, a food delivery shut-in with food donated by Theo’s restaurant, donated bicycle helmets for the community by Issys, donation to the Jonesville school backpack program, donation to Miss Wheelchair North Carolina, raffle tickets sales for Ipad (donated by Yadtel) with proceeds going to Tri-C, a bike giveaway and local car show.
Several ideas that sprang from last year’s success in the area came back to the table at Tuesday’s meeting. The group discussed safety programs such as community watch and a senior safety program. The group targeted May for a girls and boys bike giveaway.
Secretary Dave Henco of DavHenco Inc. brought up the idea of a Jonesville parade to promote and support veterans awareness. The group affirmed the initiative. Henco said he would be in contact with the Veterans Association, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and other pertinent personnel.
The group also discussed possible ideas for the Jonesville Jubilee in May.
Members of the association said another positive feature for membership will be the chance for each member to speak up about their own personal businesses at the meetings.
Officers of the Jonesville Business Association are: President Anita Darnell; Vice President Debbie Nixon; Treasurer Issy Hinshaw; Regina Adkins, Secretary; and Membership Coordinator David Henderson.
