YADKINVILLE — The Yadkin County commissioners made quick work of the four items on the board action agenda at their meeting on Monday, approving a sheriff’s office budget amendment and a contract amendment with CW Electric involving the installation of three generators at the county’s video tower sites.

Also approved on Monday was a change order and project ordinance involving IT equipment at the new Yadkin Memorial Park, which is slated to open late this fall. The commissioners also approved the Human Services department to hire a registered nurse as a reserve employee to fill-in as needed on a part-time basis in place of a nurse who recently retired.

At the start of Monday’s meeting, Dr. Todd Martin, superintendent of Yadkin County Schools, addressed the board during public comments.

“I come before you this morning to say thank you,” Martin said. “Back in the spring, I appeared before this board and made a request for some emergency funding for some repairs to roof and windows at one of our elementary schools, part of the roof at Forbush High School and some repairs that were required under the American Disabilities Act at both of our high schools, and this board graciously agreed to fund the projects. I wanted to let you know that those have proceeded on schedule and we’ve made a lot of improvements and so I thank you for helping us, helping the schools system with that.”

Martin also thanked the board and county manager for their good working relationship with the school district during the budgeting process.

“Budgets are always interesting, especially in these times, but I really do appreciate and the school system appreciates you working with us to help us meet the needs that our schools and our students have,” he said.

Chairmen Kevin Austin responded, saying that he too appreciated the good relationship between the county board of commissioners and the school board.

On Sept. 29, both groups will have a joint meeting in the commissioners room at 7 p.m.
