SALISBURY — A yarn maker has announced plans to open a new facility in Mocksville and create more than 500 new jobs in North Carolina over the next three years.
Gildan Yarns, a subsidiary of Gildan Activewear, also will expand its Bladen County facility and already is building a new plant in Salisbury, Gov. Pat McCrory announced Tuesday at DCCC’s Davie County campus.
The new jobs will pay $32,000 a year on average, plus benefits.
The announcement comes the day after Mocksville and Davie County officials approved up to $3.4 million in performance-based incentives. Those incentives were based on the company creating 290 jobs in Mocksville.
The new Salisbury plant, next to its current facility, was first announced in December. It was expected to employ 170 at that time.
State officials approved an additional $3.4 million in incentives over the next 12 years.
