Chappell announces campaign for clerk of court
WILKESBORO — A Millers Creek man has announced his campaign for Wilkes County Clerk of Superior Court.
J.L. Chappell, who has more than 25 years experience working in the judicial system, will be seeking the Republican nomination for clerk of court. He serves as a probation/parole officer with the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
In this position for the past 20 years, Chappell said he has worked closely with the court systems of Wilkes, Ashe and Alleghany counties.
“This work experience, as well as my past employment with the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Department, Wilkesboro Police Department and my service in the U.S. Air Force, has given me extensive experience in criminal and civil court proceedings, both of which are under the direction of the Wilkes County Clerk of Superior Court,” he said.
Chappell has been married 40 years and has a daughter and three grandchildren, who he called “wonderfully rambunctious.” He also serves as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at his church.
He is serving on the Community Resource Council, Wilkes County Crime Stoppers, team leader with the Department of Corrections Emergency Response Team and has been an active member of the Wilkes County Republican Party.
“I eagerly welcome the opportunity to lead the office of Wilkes County Clerk of Superior Court in a direction that would offer professionalism and fairness to not only the employees of the clerk’s office, but to all citizens of Wilkes County, thereby being a benefit to all Wilkes County residents,” Chappell said. “I will have an open door policy and be available to any citizen at all times.
“I fully understand that as an elected official, I will be a public servant and accountable to the voters of Wilkes County,” he continued. “I have a good working relationship with the current court officials and anticipates a smooth transition. My overall goal is to strive to the best of my ability to be a good steward of public resources and provide the very best public service possible.”
