Starmount 8, Alleghany 0 - Sparta


The Rams earned their first shutout of the season Monday night, blanking Alleghany in convincing fashion, 8-0.


Starmount found the back of the net just 10 minutes into the game when Bryan Jimenez scored off a free kick to give the the Rams a quick 1-0 advantage.


From there, Starmount never stopped scoring, reeling off six goals in the first half.


Juan Mora fired a shot home three minutes later before Yair Alvarez scored his first goal of the season to push the lead out to 3-0.


Salomon Maya, Hunter Johnson and Adalexis Salinas tallied first-half goals to give the Rams a comfortable 6-0 lead at the break.


Jimenez and Evan Stinson tacked on goals in the second half to seal Starmount’s second Mountain Valley Conference victory of the season, pushing the Rams’ record to 2-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in league play.


Starmount out-shot the Trojans 33-5 in a dominating victory.


Stinson and Juan Noveron combined for the shutout in goal, stopped all five shots they saw.


The Rams return to the pitch Wednesday against Wilkes Central.


Forbush 3, South Stokes 1 - East Bend


The Falcons kicked off Western Piedmont Athletic Conference action on the right foot.


Playing the opening game of the newly formed league, Forbush topped new conference foe South Stokes, 3-1, at Falcon Stadium in East Bend.


The Falcons improved to 7-3-1 on the season with the win.


Forbush returns to the field Wednesday against a tough West Stokes club (7-4-1) in a WPAC showdown.
