Falcons come up short against West Stokes

EAST BEND — The Falcons came up just short of notching the biggest win of their impressive season Friday night at home.
Forbush battled 2011 state champion West Stokes to the end before falling, 27-20.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead on the road before seeing the Falcons claw back into the game. Forbush scored a touchdown in each of the final three quarters but could not overcome the early deficit as West hung on for the seven-point win.
The Falcons struggled against a tough Wildcat defense, only managing 192 yards of total offense, playing again without starting quarterback Carson Fulp.
Freshman signal-caller Jackson Cooper filled in, completing 5-of-10 passes on the night for 49 yards and a score, while rushing for eight more.
Brady Willard hauled in two throws for 29 yards and a touchdown, while Tyler Holden brought in two more for eight yards. Tyler Johnson caught one pass for 12 yards.
Jordan Sawyers paced the offense with 89 rushing yards and a score with Holden adding 46 more on nine carries.
The Falcon defense limited West Stokes to 275 yards of total offense but could not slow down the Wildcats’ rushing attack, which racked up 190 yards.
Forbush forced three fumbles on the night, with Cory Hayden returning one for a touchdown. The junior added 12 tackles on the night.
Cody Shrewsbury tallied 12 tackles, two tackles for a loss and blocked a field goal. Zach Ragsdale added eight tackles, while Derald Jayson and Willard tacked on six tackles apiece.
Forbush fell to 4-4 on the season and dropped to 1-1 in Western Piedmont Confernce action with the loss. The Falcons can shake up the league standings Friday when they travel to Winston-Salem to take on front-runner Carver (7-1, 2-0).
