KERNERSVILLE — In a strong field at Saturday’s 2A Midwest Regional at Ivey M. Redmon Park in Kernersville, Forbush senior Alec Faircloth posted the fastest time in school history.
Faircloth raced to a school-record time of 16:56 to garner All-Region honors and punch his ticket to this weekend’s 2A Cross Country State Championship.
Despite his record finish, the senior finished 10th in a powerful pack. Central Academy of Technology’s Elijah Inuwa blazed the course in a time of 16:16 to secure the regional title as the top-10 runners posted sub-17:00 times.
“It was a great last run for four-year runner Alec Faircloth — he’ll be missed next year,” Coach Stephanie Beuter said.
Teammates Ben Wall (18:41) and Will Killy (18:55) finished 45th and 48th, respectively, while Noah Sisk crossed the line in 61st with a time of 19:26.
Austin Mendenhall (87th - 20:07), Charlie Wyrick (104th - 21:11) and Cody Farmer (119th - 22:00) rounded out the Falcons’ finishers, who ended the afternoon in seventh place in the final team standings with 236 points.
Central Academy of Technology won easily with 78 points, while Randleman (113 points), Surry Central (134), West Stokes (134) and Wilkes Central (226) rounded out the top five.
In the girls’ race, Sierra Winters paced the Lady Falcons with a 17th-place finish in a time of 21:43. Anna Koch finished on her heels in 20th place in 21:51.
Sarah Hayden (46th - 23:24), Madelyn Pianpanya (107th - 30:17) and Macy Johnson (108th - 30:21) rounded out Forbush’s finishers.
The Lady Falcons placed ninth in the final standings with 274 team points, while West Davidson raced away with the regional championship with 79 points. West Stokes finished second, while Ashe County finished fourth.
“Everyone did amazing; they ran their best times of the season,” Beuter said. “The whole team has grown so much since the first day of practice and their hard work has paid off.”
State qualifiers will return to the course in Kernersville Saturday in the 2A Cross Country State Championship.
