EAST BEND — Forbush battled in three close games last week against former Mountain Valley Conference foes, winning the finale against East Wilkes on Friday.
On Tuesday, the Falcons dropped a heart-breaking 68-67 decision to former league foe West Wilkes on a last-second bucket.
Forbush lead for the majority of the contest, including a 61-55 advantage with 3:24 remaining in the game.
But the Blackhawks stormed back. Josh Englebert gave West the victory when he corralled an offensive rebound and went back up for the game-winning score, giving the home team the wild one-point triumph.
Bryson Lee and the Falcons had one last look at the winning score, but Lee slipped near the three-point line and was called for a travel, sealing the win for West.
The last-second shot spoiled an impressive 29-point outing by Barrett Hennings. Tyler Johnson added 12 points, while Patrick Davis tacked on five.
Forbush responded with a hard-fought performance against defending MVAC tournament champion Wilkes Central.
The Falcons trailed just 17-14 at the end of one and 24-23 at the half. Central pushed its lead out to 41-37 heading to the fourth before knocking down free throws to win 55-49.
Hennings poured in another 22 points, while Mason Doub added 11. Davis and Lee tacked on four points apiece.
Forbush capped the week with a thrilling 54-51 victory over East Wilkes.
The Falcons (2-4) returns to the court with three more games this week against West Wilkes, Starmount and East Wilkes. The Yadkin County rivals square off Wednesday in Boonville.
