MOUNT AIRY — Forbush came out swinging and knocked North Surry from the ranks of the unbeaten.

The Lady Falcons handed the Lady Greyhounds their first loss of the season 8-3 April 16.

The Falcons reached base on their first four at-bats and scored seven runs in the first two innings.

The Hounds tried to rally. They scored twice in the bottom of the first and had two runners on base in both the fourth and six innings, but couldn’t get one in.

“We were just a hit or two away from being in the ball game, a key hit here and there,” said Coach Willie Hodges.

The Hounds made good contact with several balls, but sent them right to a defender.

“They hit the ball in the gaps tonight, and we didn’t,” said Hodges.

When the Falcons weren’t getting hits, the Hounds showed off solid glove play. Right fielder Aubrey Hall had three putouts, and center fielder Taylor Hill had a nice running catch in left-center.

“Both teams played great defense,” said Hodges. “You can’t take anything away from Forbush. They beat us tonight.

“We have to prepare and be ready next time,” he said. The Hounds will get a chance to avenge the loss in East Bend on May 2 in the regular-season finale.

Forbush improved to 12-2 after defeating South Stokes, 9-1, Friday night. North Surry rebounded with a win Friday night to improve to 12-1.
