Forbush wrestler Isaac McMillan has earned a spot on the North Carolina USA Wrestling Junior National Dual Team.

The team is being coached by Erik Wince, Davidson College assistant wrestling coach; and Trip Rogers, head coach at Hough High School. The team competed in Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling at the Freede Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, June 24-28.

These Olympic styles are different from the Folkstyle that is wrestled in high school.

McMillan, a rising junior, also will be making the journey to Fargo, North Dakota, for the Asics/Vaughn Individual Greco-Roman and Freestyle Nationals on July 19-27 with team NC. Wince and Gardner-Webb Head Coach Daniel Elliot will be coaches for the NC wrestlers.

To qualify to wrestle at this national event, wrestlers had to qualify by placing in the top two at the state Greco and Freestyle State Championships and/or top three at a National Regional event.

McMillan qualified at the state and regional levels. Isaac believes that wrestling different styles has helped to greatly improve his high school wrestling, including breaking Forbush’s record for most wins in a sophomore season. McMillan finished the season 45-3.

He is the son of Daniel and Crystal McMillan of East Bend.
