Mr. Charles Omer Whitaker, 80, of Center Road passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Willowbrook Health Care in Yadkinville after an extended illness.
He was born January 20, 1932 in Yadkin County to the late Charlie and Zetta White Whitaker.
Mr. Whitaker was retired with 41 years of service from Hanes Hoisery in Winston-Salem. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church, enjoyed playing and listening to Bluegrass, riding horses, and playing with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant sister, his sister, Eva Maines, and a brother, Harold Whitaker.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 60 years, Hilda T. Whitaker, of the home; 2 sons, Gary Dwayne Whitaker, and wife, Susan of Yadkinville; Dennis S. Whitaker, and wife, Bridget, of Hamptonville; 3 grandchildren, Shelley Harvey, Keara Sanders, Tanner Whitaker; 4 sisters, Doris Hoots, Icie Dinkins, Gail Edwards, Charlotte Sizemore; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will received friends from 6-8 PM Saturday July 21, 2012 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service was held 2:00 PM Sunday July 22, 2012 at Center United Methodist Church by Rev. J.P. Sizemore and Rev. Bonnie Harris. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial followed in the Center Memorial Church Cemetery.
