On Sunday, Sept. 9, the Boonville community showed its support for its local fire department by giving the gift of life during a blood drive for the American Red Cross.

It was one of the larger blood drives hosted by the fire department with over 30 people registering to give blood along with several first-time donors.

Entertainment for the young and young at heart was provided from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The program began with the singing of the National Anthem by a quartet from the Starmount Show Choir with flag presentation by the Boy Scouts. Pilot and former Fire Chief, Danny Smith, commemorated those who lost their lives on 9/11 and recognized current and retired fire fighters. Fire Chief Dwaine Dobbins recognized four former fire chiefs who have served the Boonville Fire Department as well as firefighters who had been lost during the past year.

After the program, the community listened to bluegrass/gospel music provided by the band, Beyond the Blue, from State Road, NC, and enjoyed hotdogs with all the fixings. Children’s activities included face painting, a bounce house, and a dunking booth.

The fire department raised over $130 for the NC Fallen Fire Fighter Foundation with the dunking booth.

From the Boonville Fire Department, we would like to thank the Boonville community for their support.
