A “murder” was committed in the name of fund-raising in downtown Yadkinville this weekend.
The Downtown Business Association hosted Dinner & Mystery at the Oaks on Feb. 24 in front of a crowd of 72.
The event was a fundraising effort for the DBA’s Downtown Improvement Group, and the association raised approximately $900, just short of its $1,000 goal.
“The building was filled with laughter many times throughout the night,” said Brenda Brown, DBA treasurer.
The event was held at Allison Oaks Vineyards’ location on East Main Street. Regal Catering provided food and the performance was put on by the Old Freezer Locker Players.
Tiny Bubbles, Otto Von Schnapps, Marilyn Merlot, Ralph Rottingrape, Hedy Shablee, Papa Vito and FBI Agent Bud Wizer presented the crowd with a dinner spanning murder mystery that the diners were then asked to solve.
About 20 guests made a prediction on the identity of the killer and several guessed correctly. A drawing was held to determine the winner of a gift basket donated by Boonville Flower and Gift, Allison Oaks Vineyards and the DBA. Jo Dorsett won the prize.
“The event was a huge success and we are going to plan another one for the fall,” Brenda Brown said.
Lisa Drum, Bobby Todd, Becky McCarson, Jim Drum, Tricia Todd, John Hutchens and Tony McCarson played the characters in the murder mystery and Southern Bride provided their costumes.
