JV Softball: Rams, Falcons win big

WEST JEFFERSON — Starmount’s junior varsity softball team pounded out 17 hits and earned a 15-2 win over Ashe County last week.

The Rams held the Huskies to just three hits.

Courtney Barnes, Amber Smith, Taylor Spillman and Kassidy Macemore led the Starmount hitting attack.

Barnes was 4-for-5. Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Spillman went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Macemore had one hit and recorded two RBIs.

The Rams got on the board with five runs in the first inning, one in the second, three in the fourth, one in the sixth and five in the seventh.

Ashley Osborne earned the pitching victory. She struck out seven against three hits surrendered.

The win moved the JV Rams to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the Mountain Valley 2A Conference.

FORBUSH: The JV Falcons improved to 4-1 overall with Monday’s win against visiting Surry Central. The Falcons gave up four early runs but rallied to pound out a 15-7 victory.

The game marked the beginning of conference play for coach Annette Dudley’s team.

Forbush’s JV team has beaten Reagan (15-2), West Stokes (5-4) and Davie (8-3) thus far. The lone loss came against East Surry (10-7).
