I registered to vote for the first time this year at the age of 46. I felt very passionate about the marriage amendment debate.

Many people I spoke with (in regards to this issue) admitted to me they felt they were so misinformed. They didn’t seem to understand what the whole proposal entailed and never really understood what they were actually voting ‘for’ or ‘against’.

I have always enjoyed a good debate; communicating with others, listening to their point of view, and educating one another. Individuals need to be aware and “wake up” to issues that may affect them or someone they might know.

This amendment actually had nothing to do with me personally, but it affected a lot of people that I know and care about. We as citizens need to understand, comprehend, and accept what we are actually doing in regards to the future of this country. It is a “new generation” and changes are bound to happen. Who are we to judge?

Many people described Amendment One as being ‘poorly written’. We as a society need to be better educated and more informed. Ignorance of the law is not a plea…
