BOONE – Clark Harmon participated in the 2012 Martha Guy Summer Institute for Future Business Leaders at Appalachian State University July 8-28.

The institute was hosted by Appalachian’s Walker College of Business.

He was among a group of 23 students from across North Carolina selected by application and interview to participate in the program.

Harmon is a resident of East Bend and a senior at Calvary Baptist Day School in Winston-Salem. He is the son of Todd and Tracy Harmon.

The students participated in lectures highlighting entrepreneurship and the basic principles of business, and they developed and presented their own business plans in small groups.

They visited BB&T University and Krispy Kreme in Winston-Salem during the first part of the program.

The students learned how to enhance their professional and executive skills through leadership, etiquette, résumé and interviewing workshops, and mock interview exercises. The program concluded with a trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City.

In Washington, students met with various speakers to learn about the business – government relationship, and in New York the participants visited the New York Stock Exchange, Bloomberg, and Tiffany & Co.
