Bobby Grey Oliver

Bobby Gray Oliver, 66, of Hamptonville, left this world for his heavenly home on Jan. 12, 2009.

He passed away at his home surrounded by his family who rejoiced with him as he met his Lord.

Mr. Oliver was born Sep. 4, 1942 to the late Reece and Minnie Dudley Oliver and celebrated his rebirth into the family of God on Sep. 11, 1972.

He was a faithful member of Peace Haven Baptist Church in Yadkinville, and a man who always put his Lord first.

His greatest joys in this life were his gardens, his fishing rod, and his deer condo.

Depending on the time of year, you always knew where he could be found, and he readily shared these loves with his close friends and family.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend; a man who knew no stranger and was always willing to give to anyone and everyone in need; a man who touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his faithful wife of 43 years, Shirley Meade Oliver; three children, Amanda (Tim) Lamm, David Oliver (Re Gregory), both of Hamptonville, and Julie (Joshua) Palmer of Banner Elk; nine grandchildren, Erika, Britney, Olivia, and Austin Meurer, Jacob and Isaac Lamm, Dalton Oliver, and Briana and Maddie Rae Palmer; and one great-grandson Tristan Blevins. Also surviving are sisters, Ann (Tommy) Joyner, and Judy (Jerry) Kimmer; and many other nieces, nephews, brother and sisters-in-law, and cousins.

His funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 15 at Peace Haven Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Freeman, the Rev. Michael Snelgrove, and the Rev. George Evans conducting the service.

He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service, and burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post No. 10346.

The family received friends at Gentry Family Funeral Home in Yadkinville on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and now close friends of Mountain Valley Hospice for all they have done for our loved one and our family over the last few months.

Lynn, Kathy, Sandra and Sarah – you are all blessed with a special gift for what you do and we are deeply and eternally grateful for your love and kindness. We also wish to say a special thank you to our close family friend, Doc Nabors, for all you have done for us.  Your unwavering support and love for our entire family over the past eight years has been such a blessing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Oliver’s memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, P.O. Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055.

Mr. Oliver’s favorite verse was Jeremiah 33:3.

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. “

We rejoice with Daddy that he called on God and all prayers are answered; all things glorious are revealed.  Hallelujah!  Praise to our Lord!
