The 2011/12 campaign for the Yadkin County United Fund began on Aug. 1. The YVUF provides funding for over 31 partner agencies throughout Yadkin County.

“Funds are given to all four public libraries in the county, Mountain Valley Hospice, the Rescue Squad, the Boy and Girl Scouts, the American Red Cross and many others,” Cindi Dixon, Executive Director of the Yadkin County United Fund said. “Our 2010/11 campaign pledges totaled $313,000 and our goal for the 2011/12 campaign is $315,000. The campaign runs from Aug. 1 through Thanksgiving Day. We’re not the sole support for the partner agencies, but we help out as much as the funds allow.”

“This year’s campaign kicked off with a raffle for a beautiful handmade quilt named “Cabin in the Cotton” donated by the Yadkin River Quilting Guild that will be given away from the drawing on Oct. 12,” Dixon said. “The tickets are available for purchase by calling the Yadkin County United Fund office at 336-679-4462. Tickets are $1 for one or six for $5.

“First prize is the quilt, second prize drawing will be for a $100 gas card and the third place drawing will be a $50 Walmart gift card.”

The campaign consists of employer/employee campaigns where employees can make a single donation or a continuous one through payroll deductions or direct billing,” Dixon said. “There are many different levels of giving. One new initiative this year is for company’s who have ten or less employees. Some businesses just hold employee campaigns and some just contribute a corporate gift, and there are those who do both. We are in need of more campaign opportunities with businesses.

“Our largest employee campaign is with Phillips Van Husen who is also our largest donor through the E. H. Barnard Charitable Trust.

“An employee campaign is easy,” she said. “I spend 10 minutes explaining the campaign to employees and telling them where the funds will be used. There is never any pressure for an employee to donate, this is all volunteer participation. We just ask people to give what they can to help those who are less fortunate.”

The fund offers incentives to individuals and businesses also.

“For all new donors, there will be a drawing for a $200 gas card and all those who increased their donation by at least 10 percent will be entered into a drawing for a $250 gas card. We ask that a donor give a ‘fair share’, which is 1 and 1/2 times their hourly rate of pay donated per month times 12 months.”

Anyone interested in becoming a corporate sponsor or partner employer/employee campaign member or anyone wishing to make an individual donation can contact Dixon at 336-679-4462.
