Boonville has a new culinary offering with the opening of The Wood Box restaurant.

The Wood Box opened its doors for the first time on Friday.

The restaurant is owned and operated by husband and wife Cindy and Alan Hicks of East Bend.

“My mom and dad built Little Brothers Seafood restaurant in Dobson years ago,” Cindy Hicks said. “That’s where I really got to where I wanted to have my own restaurant and I’ve worked in several restaurants as well.”

The Wood Box specializes in wood smoked barbecue, chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs.

Hicks said that she and her husband chose this location after researching the area well and meeting with the building owner, Sam Crowley.

“I live in East Bend, and I think this is a very good location,” Hicks said. “We checked traffic count and Sam had a very good reputation with his barbecue and sauce.”

Hicks said this is her first venture into a barbecue restaurant.

“I had never worked in barbecue before but several of my family members own restaurants and they are in the barbecue industry,” Hicks said.

Hicks said that their weekend opening was very successful with many Boonville residents stopping in to show their support.

“Our opening weekend was outstanding,” Hicks said. “I also went on our Facebook page and we had really good response. I appreciate the community for coming out the last three days. We’re originally from Dobson and we don’t know a lot of local people but everyone has been real supportive.”

Hicks said that The Wood Box will work hard to get more involved with the community and they’ve already started by buying their products locally.

Hicks said that The Wood Box features a sit down restaurant as well as a drive-through window. The restaurant can accommodate up to 40 customers.

Hicks said she and her husband do have aspirations of expanding in the future if business continues to grow.

Hicks said that the restaurant will also offer catering and large pick up services in the future.

Catering will be available within the 60 to 90 days once the final touches are put on the restaurant.

Large pick up orders are available now and provide an option for parties and large events.

“Customers can call for a smoked shoulder or something along those lines,” Hicks said. “We need three days notice to order the meat and prep it. It takes about 12 to 14 hours to cook.”

Hicks said that the she and her husband are planning a grand opening event in about four weeks.

In the meantime, Hicks said that The Wood Box is focused on providing a variety of quality food.

“Even though we’re a small restaurant we do offer a large variety,” Hicks said. “What we do have, we try to make sure that we make correctly. We just want to make sure we’re good at what we do.”
