EAST BEND - Forbush ace Josh Faircloth capped off his impressive senior campaign by signing his official letter of intent to play ball at Surry Community College.

Faircloth, the ace of the Falcon pitching staff, made his decision official last week, inking his letter of intent at Forbush High School.

The senior has dazzled this season, powering his way to an 8-2 record on the year, with a microscopic 1.92 ERA. The eight wins are tied for first place in the Mountain Valley Conference, while the ERA mark is fifth-best.

Faircloth has struck out 57 batters through 54.2 innings, including a season-high 11 in a 3-2 upset victory over top-ranked Wilkes Central Monday night, while leading the Falcons to a 16-5 (13-3) record.

Forbush head coach Taylor Rutledge summed up the kind of ballplayer Faircloth is with his ace’s decision to skip throwing against North Forsyth last Wednesday at BB&T Ballpark in order to be ready for more important conference games down the stretch.

“I have to give a little credit to Josh,” Rutledge explained following the game at Dash Stadium. “He came to me after the Starmount game and told me that he knew that I was going to pitch him at the Dash game. He said that if the team needs me on Monday [against Wilkes Central], then I understand and I’ll throw on Monday. He was willing to not pitch at Dash Stadium to pitch in the game that we had to have.

“He’s not selfish and just wants to do what’s best for the team,” he added.

Faircloth will take that unselfish, team-first attitude to Dobson in the fall when he joins the Knights’ pitching staff.
