Yadkin County School’s sophomores from Starmount, Forbush, Yadkin Early College and Yadkin Success Academy attended a career fair at the Yadkin County Family YMCA on April 27.
More than 300 students attended this year’s career fair with 50 different businesses, colleges and government agencies present to answer any questions students had to offer.
Students were given a sheet as a reference if they couldn’t think of anything to ask such as, “What level of education is required…”, “What advice would you give yourself if you were a 10th grader now?” and “What high school courses should I be taking to prepare me for this career?”
The activities between students and business representatives were videoed and documented by Yadkin Valley Telecom, and it will air Yadtel’s local channel 7. Students were asked to fill out an evaluation; a Starmount High School student’s reply was, “It made me understand the career I want to pursue better.”
Several students agreed the event was a learning experience.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for students to speak one-on-one with someone in a career they are thinking about pursuing,” said Donna Reavis, career development coordinator for Yadkin County Schools. “The students also get to see careers they may have not thought about.”
Reavis said would like to thank all the participating exhibitors for taking their time to share their knowledge with Yadkin County students and the Yadkin County Family YMCA for hosting the event.
